6. The one trial that ran this in women

Most of what follows was measured in cells or in animals. This one was not. It was 60 postmenopausal women, followed for 48 weeks, randomized, double blind and placebo controlled.

The signal that switches on the bone-dissolving cells fell 42%. The marker of bone breakdown itself fell 22%. Both moved in the direction the women needed, and the placebo group did not follow.

7. It closed real fractures faster

A second trial in people, this one on healing rather than density. 160 patients who had just had surgery for a tibial shaft fracture, the long bone in the shin.
